Hopewell Children's Homes

Hopewell is a not-for-profit charity, established in 1983 by John and Johanna Oosterhuis in Ariss, Ontario, and governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Together with our community partners we provide care for those with varying abilities and support for their families.

Position:  RPN

Region:  Guelph & Wellington


    Under the guidance of the Manager, Residential Services, mentored by the Team Coordinators and through active participation with the Residential Services teams, the Direct Care Support Worker 2, will be responsible for the direct service to children and adults with developmental, physical and emotional challenges.

    Working with the program managers, coordinators, nurses and teams of Direct Care Support Workers, the Direct Care Support Worker 2 will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

    Person Centered Planning and Support :

    • Will meet the basic physical care and personal needs of individuals
    • Will be familiar with and follow medication procedures as outlined by the agency’s policies and procedures.
    • Be able to perform delegated health acts with appropriate training, as assigned by nursing staff including but not limited to medication administration, working with G-Tubes etc.
    • Provide transportation to individuals via association, public transit or personal vehicles as required
    • Communicate with sensitivity and respect with all people to enhance the dignity and quality of life of others
    • Be able to make activities truly accessible for the people we support
    • Immediately advise the direct supervisor of successes, opportunities, or concerns regarding people we support
    • Ensure all activities are in accordance with the principles and philosophy of Hopewell Children’s Homes with its emphasis on Care and Compassion.

    Team Functions :

    • Contribute professional manner and maintain confidentiality at all times
    • Will keep regular and accurate records and documentation for review with the team and individuals receiving support as necessary
    • Will be willing to work flexible hours within a variety of settings as required by the changing needs of the program and the people we support.

    • Understand and carry out the policy and procedures of the agency
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

    Health and Safety :

    • Ensure that Health and Safety, Serious Incidents/Occurrences and Crisis Management Plans are understood, followed and reported
    • Will possess and demonstrate knowledge of First Aid, CPR, NCI, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety Act, fire prevention and safety procedures and other areas as deemed necessary by the association.
    • When required, must be able to undertake lifting of people following guidelines for proper back care, lifting and transferring as required by the program.
    • Immediately advise the direct supervisor or designate of issues/problems/concerns regarding staff, buildings, equipment and vehicles

    Hours of Work:

    • Hours will be flexible based on needs and may include evenings and weekends as required.
    • Part time employees may be regularly scheduled less than thirty hours per week

    Educational/Technical Qualifications :

    Minimum requirement of a High School diploma, post-secondary education in Nursing RPN or RN

    • Valid Class G driver's license and own automobile insurance
    • Emergency First Aid Certificate
    • CPR
    • Non Violent Crisis Intervention
    • WHMIS
    • Fire Extinguisher and Fire Safety Training
    • Medication dispensing training
    • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products, Internet and e-mail
    • A clear vulnerable sector Police check
    • Nursing licence

Salary:  $23.50 /hour

Terms of Employment:  Two Contract Full-time Position up to 3 months ( 1
