Service Description: Literacy programs that help children and youth improve literacy skills.

Literacy programs in Guelph
include:
  • one-to-one tutoring with children (Ottawa Crescent PS)
  • reading circles (Priory Park PS)
  • one-to-one tutoring with youth (College Heights PS)
  • homework club (Parkwood Gardens Neighbourhood Group)
  • after school program (John Galt PS, West End Community Centre, Westwood PS)

Volunteer tutors spend one-two hours each week reading with a child / youth, helping with homework or doing other literacy related activities. Programs are organized and coordinated through a student-led Organizational Team and supported by a Frontier College staff person. Volunteers do not need to be students to get involved.

Conferences, training sessions, idea exchanges and networking opportunities are organized in various locations to offer professional development and bring together community partners. Programs offered across Canada.
