TorchLight also operates the TeleCheck-Dufferin program, a daily call-out check-in service that supports the safety of older adults who wish to live independently in their homes. Calls are delivered Mon-Sun, beginning at 8.30 am, including statutory holidays, by a team of volunteers and staff.

Service Description: Telephone listening service providing support for individuals experiencing life challenges.

Compassionate active listening and response for people who may be feeling isolated or confused. Volunteers provide confidential, solution-focused response and assessment of crisis with intervention only when required.
  • support for people who are experiencing distress about their circumstances
  • referral to community services
  • training provided for volunteers on listening and communication skills, solution-focused conversation, and assessing high risk situations
  • suicide intervention / prevention when required
